David Smith | Euclid

“Interior design is like what your clothes are; it’s how you dress, the structure and the skeleton. It’s about the details, what feels natural, how it feels… it’s what gives personality.” This 11,000 square foot home perfectly captures both Smith’s personality and that of the historic building itself.

PROJECT SUMMARY

Just steps away from all the best parts of the Central West End stands a home and art studio complete with wine cellar, hidden garden, cabana and a rooftop swimming pool, private massage room and entertainment penthouse with panoramic city views. Perhaps the most ingenious part of this home is that it’s camouflaged flawlessly into the look of the main street. Entirely secluded within the bustling neighborhood of businesses and restaurants, the property that once was home to Frontenac Cleaners is now home to David Smith. “It’s interesting to think that it used to be a car dealership.. and now it’s a better home than I could have ever imagined.”

It inherently has interesting attributes, including natural materials and a warm environment that pays homage to the history of the space. For example, the kitchen cabinets are an ode to what would’ve been in a hardware store around the time the building was originally built.

RELATIONSHIP HIGHLIGHT

David really likes to travel and wanted an outdoor space without having to necessarily maintain a yard. This dream was accomplished by giving each floor its own outdoor area. There is a pool on the second level, while the penthouse opens to a huge rooftop deck that’s perfect for entertaining. “It’s like a secret garden,” Jassen smiles. There’s even an art studio courtyard!
